Review:
The music of Natarang proves the genius of composers Ajay-Atul beyond doubt. Seamlessly integrating the age-old magic of Lavani, they make the album a perfect blend of modern and ethnic sounds. Lavani was a popular music form in Marathi films in the 1970s, but of late, Marathi cinema was witnessing its disappearing act. But Natarang celebrates this traditional art form in all its glory.

The brothers have lent a modern touch to some fabulous foot tapping lavanis and a beautiful gaulan has made these songs a raging hit. In a way, Ajay-Atul have succeeded in breathing a new life in Maharashtrian folk music’s popularity. They have given a fresh perspective to the tamashas depicted in the film. Guru Thakur’s lyrics combined with Ajay-Atul’s powerful music creates magical moments.

‘Kagal Gavcha Guna’ serves as the introduction of the lead character Guna played by Atul Kulkarni and has just the right tinge of Marathi folk drama to it. Sung by Ajay, Guru Thakur’s lyrics have aptly described and created the platform for the pivotal character of ‘Natarang’.

The song ‘Wajle Ki Bara’ picturised on Amruta Khanvilkar is a naughty and playful lavani with fast beats. Singer Bela Shende’s vocals give the token folk feel to the song. Her voice delivers that mischievous touch needed in the song. Ajay-Atul have beautifully placed dholki’s tod and vocals that will make listeners fall in love with this song.

‘Kashi Mi Jau Mathurechya Bajari’ is a sweet gavlan sung by Bela Shende and Ajay Gogavale. The soothing vocals of Bela are interrupted by Ajay’s high pitched intriguing voice; they are supported with constant Dholki beats which is in-fact the main instrument for this kind of folk music.
