Review:
Dil Bole Hadippa brings Pritam back to Yash Raj homeground, his last time with them being for clatter-bang music in Dhoom and Dhoom 2. The album is replete with Punjabi beats and is low on hip-hop. Though it has a small shelf life, unlike Jab We Met and Love Aaj Kal, it is loud enough to generate hype for the film and embodies the desi Punjabi spirit of the film.

Dil Bole Hadippa
opens with the upbeat ‘Hadippa’, sung energetically by Mika Singh – a watered down version of Daler Mehndi. It sets the tone for a fun, masala album and a colourful video set in a Punjabi village. The Punjabi lyrics by Jaideep Sahni are full of masti and celebration. There is no avoiding it once the channels start blaring the video round the clock. The remix has an edge over the original with its slightly more jazzed and scratched sound..

‘Discowale Khisko’, sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, KK and Rana Mazumdar is set in a Baisakhi Mela and has lyrics like ‘Nach karenge, touch karenge, aaj too much karenge’. It’s a mix of dhol beats and grunge guitars and harps on being desi. The tune is not strong and after a point, the song is just background noise. Actually, how else will Pritam compose original stuff? The back beat reminds one of the ‘Kaala Chashma’ Bhangra track that we have heard a zillion times. The remix is danceable, if you can’t swing to the original.

‘Ishq Hi Rab Hai’ is the compulsory love ballad sung by saccharine sweet-voiced Shreya Ghoshal who is complemented by Sonu Niigaam. We have heard the song in other Yashraj films and it conjures images of a colourful salwar-clad Rani running across mustard fields and Shahid chewing on sugarcane and serenading her. Oh boy, did we hit it right!

‘Bhangra Bistar’ is a Punjabi item song featuring Alisha Chinai at her sweetest best, Sunidhi Chauhan going over the top and Hard Kaur doing what she does best. It has a catchy, danceable chorus. It promises to be a hot video featuring Rakhi Sawant and Rani. The song is a scream, a slingshot number in Pritam’s musical arm.

‘Gym Shim’ has been composed and sung by Joshilay. It is an energetic track that should get you all charged up to lose some flab. ‘Khud se hi khud ki fighting’ the lyric goes – time to just do it. It’s reminiscent of Sarita Jain’s Masala Bhangra exercise video series. We have had too much of Hadippa. It’s surely fun to exercise to.
