Review:
Since a long time Anu Malik has not come up with a single track that can match his earlier success with movies like Murder and Main Hoon Naa. His recent albums, be it Woodstock Villa or the big budget Love story 2050 were completely archaic and about 10 years too late. His latest musical debacle comes in the form of Maan Gaye Mughal-E-Azam. Director Sanjay Chhel has written the lyrics for this comedy caper whose recent two outings Yahuuu and Kya dil ne kaha were a complete wash out at the box office. Perhaps Mallika Sherawat might turn things around for him because the music certainly won't.

The first song is an obvious attempt at comedy by spoofing the classic song Pyaar kiya to darna kya from Mughal-E-Azam. Singers Shaan, Ishq Bector, Anushka Manchandani and Mahalaxmi Iyer mouthing Sanjay Chhel’s lyrics do not evoke any laughter. The song has no proper structure and just relies too heavily on fast beats and rap which has been done to death already. For a comedy song to work it needs serious efforts. To be fair to the team of Maan gaye… no song since Ek chatur naar from Padosan has hit the bull’s eye in this genre. Maybe the visuals on the screen can redeem this song to some extent.

With Marmari Baahein Anu Malik tries to do an encore of Bheegein Honth with Kunal Ganjawala but fails. Though this is the only tolerable song on this album it still is nowhere near his previous work. Mahalaxmi Iyer lends her vocals too for this duet. For some inexplicable reason the re-mix version of this song is sung by Anu Malik reducing a mediocre song to even lower depths. Listen to it at your own risk.

Farah Khan brought back the qawwali with Tumse Mil Ke in Main Hoon Naa and Sanjay Chhel tries to bring back the eighties style of ghazals with Ek to Sharab Kum sung by Pankaj Udhaas. Anu Malik had done a great job with the qawwali but here he falters again making the ghazal sound too old fashioned.

Sonu Nigaam sings very little for Hindi movies these days and I wish he would choose work that would go down well with his fans. The song Ishqaiyyan is not the kind of songs he would be remembered for. Both Sonu and Sunidhi Chauhan do a good job but overall the song falls flat.

Except Marmari Baahein all the other tunes seems to be forced. Either there is too much reliance on just mindless rhythm and beats or some undecipherable gibberish rap. Stay away from this.
