After receiving the best lyricist award-Filmfare for his song ‘Aaj Din Chadheya’ from Love Aaj Kal, lyricist Irshad Kamil completed a hattrick of awards in 2010.
He threw a party to celebrate his joy with friends and family at Novatel, Juhu. Celebrities who attended the party were Abbas Tyrewala, director Mrunalinni Dayal, Sooraj Barjatya, Javed Jaffrey, Kumar Mangat, Shahid Kapoor along with Pankaj Kapoor & Supriya Pathak, Satish Kaushik, Preetam, Saurabh Shukla, Vipul Shah, Ramesh Taurani, Krishika & Sunil Lulla, Imtiaz Ali, Kabeer Sadanah, Lekh Tondon, Ashwini Dheer, Kanwaljeet and many more.
On the occasion, Shahid Kapoor commented, “I know Irshad ji since a very long time. He has been writing script for my father’s serials. Then he wrote lyrics for my Jab We Met and he is also writing for my next film with dad. He is a great writer and a very soft spoken man.”
Irshad Kamil’s first award this year was the Screen Award for his song ‘Chor Bazari’ from the film Love Aaj Kal. His second honor came from his listeners when they chose his film Ajab Prem Ki Gazab Kahani as the Album of the Year.
The best part is that each time it is a different song that has brought him laurels. He laughs, “That is the surprise. Every award has been for a different song and that is extremely heartening and humbling. It puts more pressure because expectations increase in equal measures.”
