Biography
Beginning his performance on radio and television right from the age of 5, Mayookh Bhaumik, now an established tabla musician was acknowledged as a child prodigy by Ali Akbar Khan in 1981 at the age of four. He got the honour of winning the "NY State Under 18 Science Award" for creating an original string instrument at the age of seven.
His training team includes Pandit Jnan Prakash Ghosh, Ustad Sabir Khan of the Farukhabad Gharana, Kathak legend, Padmabhushan Pandit Birju Maharaj and now the able tutelage of Pandit Kumar Bose of the Benares Gharana to receive which he had returned to India.
The age of 12 had witnessed Mayookh as a recording studio musician thus having entered the music industry quite early and has also played with various artistes of global repute including Ustad Vilayat Khan, Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, Pandit Birju Maharaj, Pandit Jasraj, Pandit V. G. Jog, Pandit Monilal Nag, Pandit Ramesh Misra, Tarun Bhattacharya, Niladri Kumar, Prattyush Banerjee, Arnab Chakraborty, Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Ustad Farukh Fateh Ali Khan, Snehashish Mozumder, Jean Michel Pilc, and Ustad Sabir Khan.
over fifteen released and internationally marketed albums including his solo album "The Beginning" on Gathani Records and also with Pandit V.G. Jog, Smt. Purnima Chaudhari, Ustad Sabir Khan, Pandit Ramesh Misra have featured Mayookh and he also owns the credit of composing music for films and ads in India and the United States including "Vola's Ticket" and "Aashi".
Mayookh owns the credit of being a nominated associate of the Grammy Awards Committee (National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences - NARAS) being the youngest Asian on the board to date apart from being managed as a recording artiste by Jon Waxman Associates.

Mayookh and brother Mainak, a noted filmmaker of Calcutta, founded Black Coffee Productions, a grassroots organization that brought classical arts to the youth of India through open public performances, a first in the history of the Indian classical music scene in August 2000.
