One of the most acclaimed poets of the Marathi language, Suresh Bhat, made Ghazals popular in Marathi in his career spanning over four decades.
Bhat tried his hand in teaching and journalism after graduation, before finally settling as a poet, particularly choosing the form of Marathi gazals. His popular collections of poems/ghazals include Elgar, Rang Majha Vegala, Roopgandha, Zanzawat and Yashogandha.
Malmali Tarunya Majhe, Mendichya Paanavar Man Ajun, Maalvoon Taak Deep, Kevha Tari Pahate, Aaj Gokulat Rang Khelato Hari and Ushaakaal Hota Hota Kaal Ratra Zhali, many of which were put to music by Hridaynath Mangeshkar and sung by Lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhosle and Suresh Wadkar, were some of his popular works.
Bhat was the president of 39th Vidarbha Sahitya Sammelan held at Gadchiroli.
