Brief Biography

The band Motley Crue was formed in 1980 in Los Angeles and consists of Vince Neil Wharton (lead vocals), Mick Mars (guitar), Nikki Sixx (bass), and Tommy Lee Bass (drums).

It all began when Nikki Sixx left the band London and began rehearsing with Tommy Lee and vocalist and guitarist Greg Leon. Prior to this Lee had worked with Leon in a band called Suite 19 and the trio practiced together for some time. Leon eventually decided not to continue with the band and left. The bassist and drummer then began a search for new members. Sixx and Lee soon met guitarist Mick Mars. Mars was performing in various blues based acts under his name Bob Alan Deal; when he placed an advertisement in The Recycler reading "Loud, rude, aggressive guitarist available" Vince Neill came in because Tommy Lee had known him before and the two had performed a number of time at the garage-band circuit.

The band became one of the most successful heavy metal groups of the 1980s. Besides music, Motley Crue also set the scale for dissolute rock and roll behavior. Since the release of The Dirt, the band has been known as one of the most depraved and self-destructive groups in rock music history.

Motley Crue is one of the best-selling American hard rock bands having sold over 45 million album copies all over the world including 25 million copies in the US alone. The band has often been in the news for their hard-living lifestyles. All members have had a number of problems and issues with the law. They have spent time in jail, suffered long addictions to alcohol and drugs and are heavily tattooed. Clearly the bad guns!
